The United Nations’ High Commissioner for Refugees was created in 1950 to address the millions of people who had been uprooted by World War II. The scope and legal framework established back then focused solely on Europeans, but beginning around 1958-59 when other conflicts arose such as those caused from Hungarian Uprising or decolonization across Africa and Asia – UNHCR expanded its operations into these areas too because we believe every human being has responsibilities no matter what country they come from.
The UNHCR is a UN agency that helps people who have been forced from their homes.
